The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MFA) announced this week that all passengers going to Japan must have a negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours of entering Japan. Airlines can deny boarding for any passengers without a valid test certification. This new policy will start on March 19th, 2021.
Additional test methods are added as well, including TMA, TRC, Smart Amp, NEAR, and Next Generation Sequencing. Current certified methods include Real Time RT-PCR, LAMP, and CLEIA. Sampling methods remain unchanged, either Nasopharyngeal Swab or Saliva are acceptable.
