I am here to help you. My name is Felix Wong, and I am the founder of Travel Japan Like A Local. Long before I started this website, I already planned my many Japan trips (like 14 times since 2007). I also helped friends and family plan their trips.
You might ask, “What’s the difference between a travel agency and you? Travel agents can handle my bookings just fine.”
That’s where the difference is: expert customization base on your input. This is something travel agencies cannot provide easily. My goal is to help you figure out what you want for the trip, then do the legwork for you.
Planning is usually an inevitable yet tedious process in a vacation. You come up with where you want to go, look for flights to go there. You book the flight and hotels, make transportation arrangements, and make an itinerary. Some people (me included) like it, but not everyone, and I bet some of you don’t.
Now combine that with a foreign land, with a language that you do not understand. The people are warm and welcoming, yet their command of English are spotty at best. Their websites had lots of useful information, but most are in Japanese. The rest are in broken, Google Translated English. Looking up valuable info became a lot more difficult, and so does the planning.
Sure, you can go to your favourite travel agency, and they can solve most of these planning issues. Yet, it’s your first trip to the Land of the Rising Sun, and you would want the trip to be special to you. Travel agencies can only go so far without charging you big bucks for customization.

Let me elaborate: a lot of times, people aren’t always certain about what they want to see or do during a trip.
There’s nothing wrong about this, some people like to wander and discover things on their own. Others would have followed the footsteps of travelers before and visit the favourites. Yet there are a few drawbacks.
- You have limited time during the trip. That does not only applies for the days in country. No matter you are in Japan for the first or umpteen time, you will still only have nine to ten hours of daylight each day.
- Nowadays, popular locations are usually crowded. Following the crowd won’t necessarily get you a great experience.
- You can’t take advantage of great deals in the form of advanced bookings.
Having a comprehensive plan beforehand will allow you to mitigate most of these factors. You would spend less time finding your way, and more time enjoying the beauty of Japan.
